Encadernação artística da época em marroquim vermelho com finos ferros a ouro na lombada (por casas fechadas) e nas pastas rolados em esquadria com motivos florais em super-libris. Cortes dourados por folhas.

Ilustrado com uma gravura com junto ao rosto, com um retrato da Santa (com a subscrição Nicos. fecit. — et impressit. Viana), gravado a talhe-doce que, no entanto, não corresponde ao que é registado por Ernesto Soares (História, 1899) que foi gravado por Joaquim Carneiro da Silva, segundo original do próprio (subscrição: I.C. Sª. inv et sculp.). Impresso em papel de linho avergoado.

Exemplar com leves e desvanecidos vestígios marginais de humidade nas folhas iniciais.

Obra publicada anónima e traduzida por Frei António da Silveira. Sobre a identidade do tradutor, as opiniões também não são unânimes: Inocêncio (I, p. 272), afirma ter sido o dominicano Frei António da Silveira, enquanto que Gonçalves Rodrigues (Tradução, 906) indica o nome de Manuel José Martins dos Santos. No fim traz uma notícia bibliográfica de todos os escritores naturais e estranhos, que tratarem da vida e acções desta princesa canonizada.

Santa Joana (Lisboa 8-02-1452 - Aveiro 12-05-1490) era filha de D. Afonso V e de D. Isabel e irmã de D. João II. Foi beatificada a 4 de Abril de 1693, por Inocêncio XII e declarada, em 5 de Janeiro de 1965, especial protectora de Aveiro, pelo papa Paulo VI. Recebeu uma esmerada educação a cargo de dois humanistas - Cataldo Áquila e Parísio Sículo, foi jurada princesa herdeira e foi regente do reino em 1471, durante a expedição de seu pai a Arzila. Em 1475 entrou para o Convento de Jesus em Aveiro.

Inocêncio I, 272: “Fr. Antonio da Silveira, Dominicano, natural do Porto, segundo uns, ou de villa d’Azurara conforme outros, n. em 1721 e m. em 1786. Epitome da vida de Sancta Joanna, Princeza de Portugal, religiosa da ordem de S. Domingos, chamada vulgarmente a Sancta Princeza. Lisboa, por Manuel Soares 1755. 4.o de XX 208 pág. com um retrato. - É tradução do italiano, mas adicionada pelo tradutor, que a publicou ocultando o seu nome. No fim traz uma notícia bibliográfica de todos os escritores naturais e estranhos, que tratarem da vida e acções desta princesa canonizada”.

Contemporary artistic binding in red marroquin with fine gilt tools on the spine and with the folders framed with floral motifs in superlibris. Gilt edges.

Illustrated with an engraving facing the title page, with a portrait of the Saint (with the inscription Nicos. fecit. - et impressit. Viana), engraved in intaglio which, however, does not correspond to the one recorded by Ernesto Soares (História, 1899), which was engraved by Joaquim Carneiro da Silva, according to his own original (inscription: I.C. Sª. inv et sculp.). Printed on embossed linen paper.

Copy with light and fading marginal traces of moisture on the initial leaves.

Anonymously published work translated by Frei António da Silveira. As to the identity of the translator, opinions are not unanimous: Inocêncio (I, p. 272), claims to have been the Dominican Friar António da Silveira, while Gonçalves Rodrigues (Translation, 906) indicates the name of Manuel José Martins dos Santos. At the end, there is a bibliographical note of all the natural and foreign writers who have dealt with the life and actions of this canonised princess.

Santa Joana (Saint Joan) (Lisbon 8-02-1452 - Aveiro 12-05-1490) was the daughter of King Afonso V and D. Isabel and sister of King João II. She was beatified on April 4, 1693, by Inocêncio XII and declared on January 5, 1965, as a special protector of Aveiro by Pope Paul VI. She received a thorough education from two humanists - Cataldo Áquila and Parísio Sículo, was sworn princess heiress and was regent of the kingdom in 1471, during her father"s expedition to Arzila. In 1475 she entered the Convent of Jesus in Aveiro.
