A very rare work, important for the knowledge of the Portuguese community in Brazil, whose members gathered big fortunes and that exercised great influence in Portugal in fields of economy, politics, and arts.

Rodrigo Pereira Felício (Carril Branco, São Mamede de Infesta, 1821 - Rio de Janeiro, 1872), Viscount and first Count of São Mamede, was a Portuguese trader, capitalista and banker living in Brazil since he was 9 years old.

On the 1st of September, 1860, he became president of the Banco Rural e Hipotecário do Rio de Janeiro, and travelled through Europe between 1861 and 1863. He was one of the founders of the Brazilian and Portuguese Bank, later renamed English Bank of Rio de Janeiro, with headquarters in London and branches in Rio de Janeiro, Lisbon and Oporto. He was also an important member of the Trade Association of Rio de Janeiro and the Portuguese Charity Society in the same town. Due to changes in the statutes of the English Bank, Felício step down and, together with João José dos Reis and José Carlos Mayrink, founded the Banco Comercial do Rio de Janeiro [Commercial Bank of Rio de Janeiro] on the 6th of April, 1866.

King Luís I of Portugal granted him the commendation of the Order of Our lady of Conception of Vila Viçosa in 1862. In 1863 he became a noble of the Royal House and was awarded by the Pope with the commendation of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem during his visit to Rome. King D. Luís granted him the title of Viscount of São Mamede by decree of the 12th September 1867, and later on the 2nd of March 1869, the title of Count.

He built the present parish church of São Mamede de Infesta donating around 12 contos de réis. The construction works started in 1864 and ended on the 7th September, 1866.
