Reedição oitocentista deste dicionário de bolso bilingue, de autoria anónima, publicado em Lisboa por Rolland — uma das várias que foram publicadas ao longo do século, não só em Lisboa, mas também em Paris, por Aillaud, e em Londres, por Wingrave. A Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal conserva apenas a segunda parte desta edição.

Trata-se de uma compilação anónima refundida pelos editores, que invoca o nome de António Vieira Transtagano — autor do A Dictionary of the Portuguese and English Languages (Londres, 1773) — como matriz e garantia comercial. Estes dicionários portáteis destinavam-se ao uso prático do comércio, da navegação e das relações anglo-portuguesas.

Cada parte dispõe o texto a três colunas; após as entradas, inclui uma lista dos verbos irregulares ingleses, a explicação das abreviaturas e os nomes próprios com as respectivas abreviações.

António Vieira, dito Transtagano (1712–1797), foi gramático e lexicógrafo. Ensinou italiano e português em Londres e foi depois Regius Professor de espanhol na Universidade de Dublin (Trinity College). Publicou A New Portuguese Grammar in Four Parts (Londres, 1768) e A Dictionary of the Portuguese and English Languages, in Two Parts (Londres: J. Nourse, 1773), obra que serviu de base às numerosas versões de bolso abreviadas editadas no século XIX.

Copy with slight signs of wear on the binding. The edges of the pages feature parallel lines of ink drawn by hand along the margin of the second part, serving as a manual index for reference. A ownership stamp belonging to João Baptista Bello de Carvalho on the front endpaper.

A 19th-century reprint of this anonymous bilingual pocket dictionary, published in Lisbon by Rolland — one of several editions published throughout the century, not only in Lisbon, but also in Paris by Aillaud, and in London by Wingrave. The National Library of Portugal holds only the second part of this edition.

This is an anonymous compilation revised by the publishers, which cites the name of António Vieira Transtagano — author of A Dictionary of the Portuguese and English Languages (London, 1773) — as its source and commercial guarantee. These pocket dictionaries were intended for practical use in trade, navigation and Anglo-Portuguese relations.

Each section presents the text in three columns; following the entries, it includes a list of irregular English verbs, an explanation of the abbreviations, and proper nouns with their respective abbreviations.

António Vieira, known as Transtagano (1712–1797), was a grammarian and lexicographer. He taught Italian and Portuguese in London and later became Regius Professor of Spanish at the University of Dublin (Trinity College). He published A New Portuguese Grammar in Four Parts (London, 1768) and A Dictionary of the Portuguese and English Languages, in Two Parts (London: J.
