Volume realizado no âmbito da exposição Neue Deutsche Baukunst | Nova Arquitectura Alemã, realizada em Lisboa de 8 a 23 de Novembro de 1941 no Salão das Belas Artes, sob orientação e com a presença de Albert Speer, do Presidente da República Portuguesa Óscar Carmona e de vários arquitetos portugueses, entre os quais Raul Lino, o qual foi o interprete do evento.

A obra mostra a estética monumental da arquitectura do Partido Nacional-Socialista – com grandes parques, alamedas, estádios, edifícios institucionais – e outros espaços que simbolizam o poder numa dimensão neoclássica, intemporal, e absoluta.

O texto que precede a selecção de fotogravuras, nas primeiras 21 páginas, foi escrito por Rudolf Wolters, e passa em revista as grandes tendências da arquitectura do século XIX e XX, descrevendo o carácter e essência peculiares à arquitetura Nacional-Socialista alemã.

“Em 8 de Novembro de 1941, inaugurou-se em Lisboa a notável exposição Nova Arquitectura Alemã organizada pelo Inspector Geral de obras da capital do Reich, Arquit. Albert Speer, em colaboração com o Grémio Luso-Alemão e com a representação lisboeta da RDV. Presentes o Presidente da República, General Carmona, e o ministro das Obras Públicas, Eng.º Duarte Pacheco (o Presidente do Conselho, Prof. Salazar, visitou-a mais tarde). Depois dos cumprimentos ao Presidente apresentados pelo ministro da Alemanha, Von Hoyningen-Huene, e pelo presidente da Sociedade das Belas Artes, Eugénio Correia, o Chefe do Estado visitou a exposição na companhia de Speer e dos organizadores e pediu explicações pormenorizadas sobre as obras dos arquitectos Troost, Speer e Kreis. Uma hora depois e apesar da chuva intensa que caía nesse dia, uma multidão aguardava em frente da Sociedade das Belas Artes para assistir à partida do General Carmona. No dia seguinte, ao saírem em grandes títulos na imprensa portuguesa as notícias da exposição, doze mil interessados foram visitá-la, apesar da chuva persistente e da enchente de visitantes, que obrigou a polícia a encerrá-la temporariamente. Nos catorze dias que a exposição esteve aberta ao público, mais de cem mil visitantes ali acorreram, o que fez dela a maior até então exibida em Portugal. Dado o grande interesse demonstrado e a rapidez com que os milhares de prospectos se esgotaram, foi publicada uma obra bilingue de grande formato profusamente ilustrada que reproduzia em papel de boa qualidade as obras principais.” [Reinhard Schwarz, Os Alemães em Portugal, 1933 – 1945. Volume produced as part of the exhibition Neue Deutsche Baukunst | New German Architecture, held in Lisbon from 8 to 23 November 1941 at the Salão das Belas Artes, under the guidance and with the presence of Albert Speer, the President of the Portuguese Republic Óscar Carmona and several Portuguese architects, including Raul Lino, who was the interpreter for the event.

The work shows the monumental aesthetic of the National Socialist Party"s architecture - with large parks, boulevards, stadiums, institutional buildings - and other spaces that symbolise power in a neoclassical, timeless, and absolute dimension.

The text that precedes the selection of photogravures, on the first 21 pages, was written by Rudolf Wolters, and reviews the major trends in 19th and 20th century architecture, describing the character and essence peculiar to German National Socialist architecture.

'On 8 November 1941, the remarkable New German Architecture exhibition opened in Lisbon, organised by the General Inspector of Works in the Reich capital, Archit. Albert Speer, in collaboration with the Luso-German Guild and the Lisbon branch of the RDV. Present were the President of the Republic, General Carmona, and the Minister of Public Works, Eng. Duarte Pacheco (the President of the Council, Prof Salazar, visited later). After greetings to the President from the German minister, Von Hoyningen-Huene, and the president of the Fine Arts Society, Eugénio Correia, the Head of State visited the exhibition in the company of Speer and the organisers and asked for detailed explanations of the works by the architects Troost, Speer and Kreis. An hour later, despite the heavy rain that day, a crowd was waiting in front of the Fine Arts Society to watch General Carmona"s departure. The following day, when news of the exhibition appeared in major headlines in the Portuguese press, 12,000 interested people came to see it, despite the persistent rain and the flood of visitors, which forced the police to close it temporarily. In the fourteen days that the exhibition was open to the public, more than a hundred thousand visitors came, making it the largest exhibition in Portugal so far. Given the great interest shown and the speed with which the thousands of brochures were sold out, a large-format bilingual work was published, profusely illustrated, reproducing the main works on good quality paper.'
