Milton Whitney (1860 - 1927) Começou a sua carreira como professor de geologia e de física dos solos no Maryland Agricultural College. Em 1894 tornou-se o chefe do Soil Bureau, uma divisão do U. S. Department of Agriculture’s Weather Bureau, que foi o antecessor do actual National Cooperative Soil Survey do USDA.

Rare, and very important for the history of the organisms of the Federal Government of the United States, responsible for agriculture and the granting of land and loans for its exploitation, as well as for the study of the types of soils suitable for agricultural exploitation in each of the Federal States.
