De 21x14 cm. Com 333, [iii em br.] págs. Magnifica encadernação da época inteira de pele, com belos ferros a ouro e a seco na lombada e nas pastas. A lombada apresenta belos motivos florais e as pastas apresentam várias esquadrias a ouro formadas por filetes simples, com ornatos vegetalistas nos cantos, e motivos a seco, com um padrão em moldura losangular ao centro. Corte das folhas marmoreado.

Exemplar com monograma de MN ? e carimbo oleográfico da Livraria de José Joaquim Lopes Praça na folha de rosto; etiqueta de cota na capa anterior; vestígios de papel manuscrito colado no verso da guarda anterior; anotação coeva a tinta na guarda posterior. A pasta anterior está parcialmente solta do miolo e apresenta picos de traça na lombada e junto ao festo das primeiras e das últimas folhas, sem nunca atingir a mancha tipográfica. Tem uma leve mancha de humidade no canto inferior do miolo, junto ao corte das folhas.

Segunda edição em português. A primeira foi publicada por Richard Taylor, Londres, 1829. Há ainda uma tradução para o francês prévia a esta edição, por Bobée & Hingray, Paris, 1830.

O manifesto está organizado em 5 capítulos, aos quais se segue, a partir da página 87, um anexo com a tradução de documentos citados ao longo do texto, agrupados em 57 provas. Tratam-se maioritariamente de correspondência e decretos.

Obra de propaganda política acerca da problemática da sucessão do reino, com os motivos da pretensão ao trono de Portugal da futura Rainha Dona Maria II, nascida no Brasil e filha de D. Pedro I do Brasil (IV de Portugal). Publicada anonimamente, a obra teve autoria conjunta de José António Guerreiro e de Pedro de Sousa Holstein, Marquês de Palmela.

José Joaquim Lopes Praça (Alijó, 1844 - Montemor-o-Novo, 1920), ilustre filósofo, historiador, jornalista, ensaísta, constitucionalista, docente da Faculdade de Direito de Coimbra e mestre de Filosofia do malogrado príncipe D. Luís Filipe, iniciou a atividade profissional como docente de estudos secundários em Montemor-o-Novo poucos meses após a sua formatura em Direito.

The spine has beautiful floral motifs and the boards have several gold frames formed by simple fillets, with plant ornaments in the corners, and blind motifs, with a lozenge-framed pattern in the centre. Marbled edges.

Copy with oleographic monogram of MN ? and oleographic stamp of José Joaquim Lopes Praça book shop on the title page; shelf mark label on the front pastedown; traces of manuscript paper pasted on the back of the front endpaper; coeval annotation in ink on the verso of back endpaper. The title page is partially detached from the inner hinge and has moth holes on the spine and near the inner hinge of the first and last leaves, without ever reaching the text area. Slight damp stain on the bottom corner of the last leaves, next to the edge.

Second edition in Portuguese. The first was published by Richard Taylor, London, 1829. There is also a French translation prior to this edition, by Bobée & Hingray, Paris, 1830.

José Joaquim Lopes Praça (Alijó, 1844 - Montemor-o-Novo, 1920), illustrious philosopher, historian, journalist, essayist, constitutionalist, lecturer at the Faculty of Law in Coimbra and philosophy teacher to the late Prince Luís Filipe, began his professional activity as a secondary school teacher in Montemor-o-Novo a few months after graduating from law school.
