Ilustrado no texto com centenas de desenhos em extratexto com cerca de uma centena de gravuras, algumas delas a cores, reproduzindo desenhos de Manuel Bordalo Pinheiro e plantas desdobráveis de grandes dimensões da Citânia de Briteiros, das muralhas romanas de Évora, das muralhas de Santarém e da Cerca Moura da mesma cidade.

Exemplar com várias dedicatórias do autor. Preserva em todos os volumes as capas de brochura e as cotas de bibliotecas. Carimbo oleográfico de oferta do Ministério da Guerra no primeiro volume, rabiscos rosa no segundo volume, danos de manuseamento e desgaste em algumas lombadas, assim como alguns volumes com sublinhados a vermelho e a lápis. Danos na lombada e canto do volume iii das provas.

Contém nos cinco primeiros volumes a História do Exército Português, desde as origens até D. Sancho I, sendo o 5.º volume um índice dos nomes e matérias dos três primeiros volumes que se encontra encadernado junto no Volume III das Provas.

Os 17 volumes seguintes são de Provas, ou seja, a transcrição do conjunto de documentos que o autor recolheu para escrever a obra. Os volumes 1 a 4 reúnem documentos sobre a História da Guerra da Restauração; os volumes 5 a 9 documentos sobre a História da Engenharia Militar Portuguesa, desde a fundação da Monarquia até 1816. Os volumes 10 a 13 contém documentos sobre a História da Guerra Peninsular e os 4 últimos volumes das provas. A obra completa deve tem um total 22 volumes com duas numerações. Os exemplares completos são muito raros e o presente conjunto possui o volume com os índices que é raro de aparecer à venda.

Cristóvão Aires de Magalhães Sepulveda (Ribandar, Goa, 1853 - 1930) foi tenente-coronel de cavalaria, lente da Escola do Exército, deputado, Governador Civil de Bragança e de Coimbra, sócio efetivo da Academia das Ciências, da Academia de História de Madrid, do Instituto de Coimbra, escritor, poeta, jornalista.

Illustrated in the text with hundreds of drawings, hors-texte with about a hundred engravings, some of them in colour, reproducing drawings by Manuel Bordalo Pinheiro and large fold-out plans of the Citânia de (Hillfort of) Briteiros, the Roman walls of Évora, the walls of Santarém and the Cerca Moura (Moorish walls) of the same city.

Copy with several dedications from the author. Paperback covers and library storage labels preserved in all volumes. Oleographic gift stamp of the Ministry of War on the first volume, pink scribbling on the second volume, handling damage and wear to some spines, as well as some volumes with red and pencil underlining. Damage to spine and corner of volume iii of Provas.

Contains in the first five volumes the History of the Portuguese Army, from its origins to King Sancho I, the 5th volume being an index of the names and subjects of the first three volumes which is bound together in Volume III of the Provas.

The following 17 volumes are of Provas, i.e. the transcription of the set of documents that the author collected to write the work. Volumes 1 to 4 gather documents on the History of the Portuguese Restoration War; volumes 5 to 9 documents on the History of Portuguese Military Engineering, from the foundation of the Monarchy to 1816. Volumes 10 to 13 contain documents about the History of the Peninsular War and the last 4 volumes of the Provas. The complete work shall have a total of 22 volumes with two numberings. Complete copies are very rare and the present set has the volume with the indexes which is rare to appear for sale.
