Gaston Leroux (1868-1927) foi um escritor francês. Advogado de profissão, começou a ganhar a vida a publicar relatórios de julgamentos para o jornal L"Écho de Paris. Em 1893, foi descoberto pelo diretor do Le Matin, onde se tornou colunista jurídico. O seu trabalho foi uma fonte de inspiração para os seus romances. Em 1901, é promovido a repórter e, em 1903, publica em série 'La Double Vie de Théophraste Longuet' (A Vida Dupla de Théophraste Longuet). Em 1908, publica 'Le Mystère de la Chambre Jaune' (O Mistério do Quarto Amarelo), um verdadeiro sucesso a que dá continuidade com 'Le Fantôme de L"Opéra' (O Fantasma da Ópera), em 1910, 'La Poupée Sanglante' (A Boneca Sangrenta), em 1923, e 'Chéri-Bibi' (Chéri-Bibi), de 1913.

In 1893, he was discovered by the director of Le Matin, where he became a legal columnist. His work was a source of inspiration for his novels. In 1901, he was promoted to reporter and, in 1903, he serialised 'La Double Vie de Théophraste Longuet' (The Double Life). In 1908, he published 'Le Mystère de la Chambre Jaune' (The Mystery of the Yellow Room), a real success which he followed up with 'Le Fantôme de L"Opéra' (The Phantom of the Opera), in 1910, 'La Poupée Sanglante' (The Kiss That Killed), in 1923, and 'Chéri-Bibi' (Chéri-Bibi), in 1913.
