CARTA CONSTITUCIONAL DA MONARCHIA PORTUGUEZA [1826], [MINIATURA EM CAIXA]

Decretada, e dada pelo Rei de Portugal e Algarves D. PEDRO Imperador do Brazil aos 29 de Abril de 1826. LISBOA: Na Impressão Regia. Anno 1826. Com Privilegio exclusivo.

In 8º de 10,5x7,4 cm. Com 66, [iv] págs. Encadernação da época em veludo verde com ferros a seco na lombada e nas pastas. Corte das folhas dourado. Acondicionado numa caixa (de 12x8 cm.) da época, em pele, com ferros a ouro, com o interior revestido a papel decorativo marmoreado igual ao das folhas de guarda.

Ilustrado em extratexto, em face da folha de rosto, com o retrato de D. Pedro IV, Imperador do Brasil e Rei de Portugal e Algarves, e com as armas reais, sem adornos, no centro da folha de rosto.

As folhas finais contêm o índice dos títulos e capítulos e o decreto de 14 Junho de 1826, determinando as formas de aplicação do Alvará de 9 de Março relativo à impressão de edições da Carta Constitucional.

Muito rara edição miniatura da 1ª edição da Carta Constitucional outorgada por D. Pedro IV. Não é referida por Inocêncio e a Porbase não tem exemplares catalogados. Muito valorizada pela encadernação e caixa em pele executadas na época.

Código constitucional que se manteve em vigor desde 1826 a 1910, com algumas alterações. Foi uma iniciativa de D. Pedro IV, para tentar diminuir os conflitos políticos causados pela não aceitação da Constituição de 1822, que foi considerada muito radical por largos sectores da sociedade portuguesa. A carta constitucional continha 145 artigos divididos por 11 títulos.

 In octavo. 10.5x7.4 cm. 66, [iv] pp. Contemporary binding in green silk, dry tools in spine and folders. Gilt edges. Packed in a contemporary cased box (12x8 cm.), in leather, with gilt rolled tools, with the interior lined with marbled paper equal to that of the endpapers.

Illustrated “hors-text”, on the face of the title page, with the portrait of Dom Pedro IV, Emperor of Brazil and King of Portugal and the Algarves and with the royal arms, unadorned in the centre of the title page.

The final leaves contain the index of titles and chapters and the decree of 14 June 1826, determining the forms of application of the “Alvará” of March 9th concerning the printing of editions of the Carta Constitucional (Constitutional Charter).

Very rare miniature edition of the 1st edition of the Carta Constitucional (Constitutional Charter) granted by Pedro IV. It is not referred to by Inocêncio and Porbase has no catalogued copies. Very highly valued for the contemporary leather binding and case.

Constitutional code that remained active from 1826 to 1910, with some alterations. It was an initiative of King Pedro IV, to try to diminish the political conflicts caused by the non-acceptance of the Constitution of 1822, which was considered too radical by large sectors of Portuguese society. The constitutional charter contained 145 articles divided by 11 titles.
