Walker no primeiro e segundo volume: no primeiro volume Chart of the West Indies with the adjacent coast of South America, (55,5x65,5 cm.) e no segundo Chart showing the tracks across the North Atlantic Ocean, (35,5x53,5) com as rotas percorridas por Cristovão Colombo nas quatro viagens que realizou.

Exemplar com desgaste nas pastas de encadernação e alguns picos de acidez característicos do papel.

As folhas de rosto de todos os volumes apresentam uma citação da tragédia Medeia de Séneca.

Pormenorizada biografia de Cristóvão Colombo enriquecida (no último volume) com 35 apêndices que abordam assuntos específicos relacionados com a vida do navegador, incluindo o seu testamento, funeral, descendentes, genealogia e incluem notas biográficas de outros personagens que com ele se cruzaram. Contém também um extenso índice dos personagens e assuntos citados na obra.

Washington Irving (Nova Iorque, 1783 - 1859), escritor americano, autor de contos, ensaios, biografias e obras de história, foi diplomata, tendo exercido o cargo de embaixador os Estados Unidos em Madrid entre 1842 e 1846. É autor de biografias de Oliver Goldsmith, George Washington, Captain Bonneville e Margaret Miller Davidson, de uma biografia e estudo sobre Maomé e os seus sucessores, assim como de diversos livros de contos, entre os quais Tales of the Alhambra.

Illustrated with two large fold-out maps drawn by J. & C. Walker in the first and second volume: in the first volume Chart of the West Indies with the adjacent coast of South America, (55,5x65,5 cm.) and in the second one Chart showing the tracks across the North Atlantic Ocean, (35,5x53,5) with the routes travelled by Christopher Columbus on his four voyages.

Copy with signs of wear on the folders and some acidity marks characteristic of the quality of the paper.

The title pages of all volumes feature a quotation from Seneca's tragedy Medea.

Detailed biography of Christopher Columbus enriched (in the last volume) with 35 appendices that address specific subjects related to the navigator's life, including his will, funeral, descendants, genealogy and include biographical notes of other characters who crossed paths with him. It also contains an extensive index of the characters and subjects mentioned in the work.

Washington Irving (New York, 1783-1859), American writer, author of short stories, essays, biographies, and works of history, was a diplomat, serving as United States ambassador in Madrid from 1842 to 1846. He is the author of biographies of Oliver Goldsmith, George Washington, Captain Bonneville and Margaret Miller Davidson, a biography and study of Mohammed and his successors, and several books of short stories, including Tales of the Alhambra.
