Ilustrado com quatorze litografias a cores de Chimot, que são características da obra deste célebre ilustrador da Belle-époque, na qual um dos temas dominantes são os nus femininos.

Obra inicia-se com um texto de Mérimée Prosper (1803-1870) sobre as razões que o levaram a escrever sobre a personagem e o estudo que efectuou junto dos rommani, emoldurado com motivos dourados e vermelhos baseados em desenhos originais inspirados nos mármores rendilhados do pátio de Las Munecas em Sevilha. Segue-se La Course de Taureaux com uma litografia de toureio a pé em praça.

Carmen (1845) foi a mais famosa de suas novelas e narra a história de uma bela cigana infiel que é morta pelo amante, um oficial espanhol. Em 1875, foi transformada em ópera, por Georges Bizet.

Edouard Chimot (Lille,1880 - Paris 1959) artista plástico francês, que se notabilizou como ilustrador e editor. Os livros que ilustrou geralmente publicados em tiragens especiais de grande qualidade tipográfica foram exemplos marcantes da mundividência dos anos vinte na Europa. Alguns dos seus trabalhos mais célebres foram as ilustrações para as seguintes obras: René Baudu - Les Après-midi de Montmartre; Maurice Magre - La Montée aux enfers e Les Soirs d’opium; Aurele Partorni - Le Fou; Henri Barbusse - L’Enfer; Jean de Tinan - La Petite Jeanne pâle; André Cuel - Mouki le Delaissé. Fundou e dirigiu a revista:La Roseraie: Revue des Arts et des Lettres, 1921 e foi director artístico de Les Éditions d’Art Devambez e das Éditions de La Roseraie.

Illustrated with fourteen colour lithographs by Chimot, which are characteristic of the work of this celebrated illustrator of the Belle-époque, in which one of the dominant themes is female nudes.

The book begins with a text by Mérimée Prosper (1803-1870) on his reasons for writing about the character and his study of the rommani, framed with gold and red motifs based on original designs inspired by the lacy marbles of the Las Munecas courtyard in Seville. It is followed by La Course de Taureaux with a lithograph of bullfighting on the square.

Carmen (1845) was the most famous of his novels and tells the story of a beautiful unfaithful gypsy who is killed by her lover, a Spanish officer. In 1875, it was made into an opera, by Georges Bizet.
