A obra oferece um inventário detalhado de pinturas, esculturas e artes decorativas provenientes das coleções dos castelos reais prussianos, muitas das quais adquiridas originalmente por Frederico, o Grande. Paul Seidel (1858–1929) foi um eminente historiador de arte e museólogo alemão, cuja carreira foi dedicada à gestão e preservação do vasto património artístico da dinastia Hohenzollern. Como Diretor das Coleções Artísticas dos Castelos Reais e do Museu Hohenzollern em Berlim, destacou-se pela sua erudição no estudo da arte francesa do século XVIII, tornando-se uma autoridade mundial na obra de Jean-Antoine Watteau. Seidel foi pioneiro na aplicação de métodos científicos de catalogação e conservação, organizando exposições de grande relevância internacional que ajudaram a documentar a influência cultural francesa na Prússia. O seu legado intelectual e técnico foi fundamental para a proteção e inventariação de tesouros artísticos que, graças ao seu rigor, puderam ser estudados e identificados mesmo após as convulsões políticas e militares do século XX.
