 5 volumes, 15.2x10 cm. with [ii], viii, [ii], 283, [i]; iv, 270; vii, 312; vii, 295, [i]; v, 330 pp.

Binding:  Contemporary canvas worn by handling.

Illustrated with 11 engravings hors-text on thicker paper, which include a portrait of the author, a folded map of the regions close to the North Pole, parts of the expedition vessels,  and the daily  life of Eskimos.

An elegant edition of small format, quite rare, of the diaries of the first three travelling expeditions carried out by Parry aiming to discover a passage that connected the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans in the North.

These voyages were very important for the knowledge of the land and sees in the Arctic, having been discovered and mapped the coasts of several islands near Greenland and the High Lands of Canada. The expeditions also contributed to the knowledge of the social habits of Eskimos, and, for the first time, cans were used to preserve food.

William Edward Parry (Bath, 1790 – Greenwich, 1855), an official of the British Navy who reached the rank of Rear Admiral, was a pioneer of the exploration of the North Pole and became famous for his attempts to discover a passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific ocean by North, and also for his last trip in 1827, when he reached the highest northern latitude till then, only surpassed fifty years later.
