In 8º de 20x14,6 cm. Com [lxiv], 467, [i]; [xvi], 351 (isto é 234) págs. Encadernação da época em pergaminho flexível com título escrito à pena na lombada e etiqueta de biblioteca com o número 69, colada sobre o título.

A encadernação apresenta pequenos defeitos de manuseamento com perda de suporte na margem da pasta anterior, no pé e à cabeça da lombada. A numeração das páginas apresenta muitos erros, mas exemplar está completo.

O 1º volume está ilustrado na folha de rosto com retrato do autor dentro de medalhão, com gravura no início da vida de S. Romualdo e com xilogravuras representando personagens históricas vistos de perfil, nas página 1, 4, 10, 12, 13, 15, 16, 32, 43, 60, 72, 73, 76, 88, 89, 91, 96, 99, 113, 114, 123, 128, 130, 135, 136, 144, 149, 150, 151, 155, 156, 159, 169, 186, 198, 199, 208, 214, 215, 216, 219, 223, 226, 228, 236, 238, 246, 250, 256, 284, 288, 316, 352, 364, 374, 375, 379, 384, 402, 420, 421, 425 e 426. O 2º volume está ilustrado com a marca do impressor na folha de rosto, e com gravuras xilogravadas nas páginas 28, 32, 37, 47, 58, 60, 78, 80, 84, 87, 90, 94, 96, 102, 106, 111, 118, 128 e 142.

Impressão em belíssimos e pequenos caracteres itálicos em todo o texto, que está adornado por cabeções, iniciais decoradas e florões de remate. Nos índices, com o texto disposto a duas colunas, são usados caracteres romanos. As páginas preliminares do 1º volume contêm a dedicatória do impressor, Aos leitores de Vespasiano Zugliano, soneto ao autor de Giovanni Battista Tritoni, Il Tranquillo Academico Olimpico, Breve descrição da vida de S. Romualdo e índices. As páginas preliminares do 2º volume contêm os índice onomástico e índice de assuntos dividido em duas secções uma relativa aos homens e outra às mulheres.

7ª edição de Il Vago e dilettevole giardino, 1ª edição em 1586, 2ª edição em 1589 e 3ª edição em 1597, posteriormente foi publicado em 1607, 1616 e 1619. A Aggiunta foi publicada pela primeira vez em 1590, 2ª edição em 1596 e nesta edição de 1619 que é a quarta.

Obra muito popular na passagem do século XVI para o XVII é uma enciclopédia portátil que reúne grande quantidade de informações sobre os mais variados tópicos de história, religião, literatura e grande número de notas biográficas. Inclui diversos tipos de calendários, uma lista de efemérides de pessoas ilustres e lista nominal dos corpos de mártires sepultados em Roma e Veneza.

Luigi Contarino de nobres famílias entrou aos 10 anos na Ordem dos Crucíferos e distinguiu-se como historiador e poeta. Em 1553 publicou poesias e posteriormente outras obras sobre a história de Nápoles, sobre as Antiguidades de Roma.

The binding shows small handling defects with loss of support at the edge of the front board, at the foot and at the head of the spine. The page numbers have many errors, but the copy is complete.

The first volume is illustrated on the title page with a portrait of the author in a medallion, with an engraving at the beginning of St Romuald's life and with woodcuts depicting historical figures in profile on pages 1, 4, 10, 12, 13, 15, 16, 32, 43, 60, 72, 73, 76, 88, 89, 91, 96, 99, 113, 114, 123, 128, 130, 135, 136, 144, 149, 150, 151, 155, 156, 159, 169, 186, 198, 199, 208, 214, 215, 216, 219, 223, 226, 228, 236, 238, 246, 250, 256, 284, 288, 316, 352, 364, 374, 375, 379, 384, 402, 420, 421, 425 e 426. The 2nd volume is illustrated with the printer's device on the title page, and with woodcut engravings on pages 28, 32, 37, 47, 58, 60, 78, 80, 84, 87, 90, 94, 96, 102, 106, 111, 118, 128 and 142.

Printed in beautiful small italics throughout the text, which is adorned with headpieces, decorated initials and finishing fleurons. Roman characters are used in the indexes, with the text arranged in two columns. The preliminary pages of the 1st volume contain the printer's dedication, To the readers of Vespasiano Zugliano, a sonnet to the author by Giovanni Battista Tritoni, Il Tranquillo Academico Olimpico, a brief description of the life of St Romuald and indexes. The preliminary pages of the 2nd volume contain the onomastic index and subject index divided into two sections, one for men and the other for women.

7th edition of Il Vago e dilettevole giardino, 1st edition in 1586, 2nd edition in 1589 and 3rd edition in 1597, later published in 1607, 1616 and 1619. The Aggiunta was published for the first time in 1590, 2nd edition in 1596 and in this 1619 edition which is the fourth.

Very popular from the 16th to the 17th century, this portable encyclopaedia contains a wealth of information on the most varied topics of history, religion, literature and a large number of biographical notes. It includes various types of calendars, a list of ephemeris of illustrious people and a nominal list of the bodies of martyrs buried in Rome and Venice.

Luigi Contarino, from a noble family, joined the Order of the Crucifers at the age of 10 and distinguished himself as a historian and poet. In 1553 he published poems and later other works on the history of Naples and the Antiquities of Rome.
