Encadernações da época com lombadas em pele decoradas com ferros a ouro. Ilustrado com as armas de Portugal nas folhas de rosto, com um total de 37 gravuras desdobráveis, 18 gravuras no primeiro volume, 13 no segundo e 6 no terceiro.

Impressão em caracteres redondos muito nítidos sobre papel de linho decorada com alguns pequenos cabeções e florões de remate.

Exemplar com falta dos anterrostos do primeiro e segundo volume, do retrato de D. Maria no primeiro volume, da estampa 12 do primeiro volume e da estampa 11 do segundo volume. As estampas 6, 17 e 18 do primeiro volume e 13 do segundo volume com restauros. Estampas 9 e 10 do segundo volume com falhas graves. Pequenos furos de traça no pé das páginas do 1º volume do início até à página 322 e também nos restantes volumes.

Tem o nome do autor manuscrito na folha com a dedicatória a D. Maria I, por debaixo tem assinatura de posse com letra diferente: «Caetano Manuel Ferr[eir]a da Silva Poeisão Estudante de Física No ano de 1825 para o de 1826». Numerosas notas coevas manuscritas em português, nas margens das folhas e em folhas inseridas entre as folhas impressas.

Primeira edição, rara, do primeiro manual de física experimental editado em Portugal, que recolhe as lições proferidas pelo autor enquanto foi professor na Universidade de Coimbra.

Obra valiosa e importante pelo seu conteúdo cientifico, pela coleção de estampas e por ter nas 112 páginas finais do terceiro volume um catálogo descrevendo 592 instrumentos, que Dalla Bella reuniu no laboratório de física, por ele constituído nas instalações do antigo colégio dos Jesuítas, em Coimbra e que deu origem ao Museu de Física da Universidade de Coimbra.

Giovanni Antonio Dalla Bella (Pádua 1730-1823) Professor de física e matemática veio para Portugal, a convite do Marquês de Pombal, ensinar no Colégio dos Nobres em 1767 e foi transferido para a Universidade de Coimbra em 1772, onde ensinou até 1790. Além desta importante obra escreveu tratados sobre agronomia e foi o precursor da descoberta da lei das acções magnéticas. Foi socio da Academia Real das Ciências de Lisboa, e de outras corporações científicas.

Contemporary bindings with leather spines decorated with gilt tools. Illustrated with the coat of arms of Portugal on the title pages, with a total of 37 fold-out engravings, 18 engravings in the first volume, 13 in the second and 6 in the third.

Printed in very crisp round characters on linen paper decorated with a few small headpieces and finishing fleurons.

Copy with missing half title pages of the first and second volume, the portrait of Dona Maria in the first volume, print 12 of the first volume and print 11 of the second volume. Prints 6, 17 and 18 of the first volume and 13 of the second volume with restorations. Prints 9 and 10 of the second volume with serious flaws. Small moth holes at foot of pages of the 1st volume from the beginning to page 322 and also in the remaining volumes.

It has the author's name handwritten on the leaf with the dedication to D. Maria I, underneath it has an handwritten ownership title in a different handwriting: "Caetano Manuel Ferr[eir]a da Silva Poeisão Estudante de, e Física No ano de 1825 para o de 1826" (Student of Physics In the year 1825 to 1826). Numerous coeval notes handwritten in Portuguese, in the margins of the leaves and on sheets inserted between the printed leaves.

First edition, rare, of the first manual of experimental physics published in Portugal, which collects the lessons given by the author while he was a professor at the University of Coimbra.

Valuable and important work for its scientific content, the collection of prints and for having in the final 112 pages of the third volume a catalogue describing 592 instruments, which Dalla Bella gathered in the physics laboratory, which he set up in the premises of the former Jesuit college in Coimbra and which gave rise to the Physics Museum of the University of Coimbra.
