In 4º (19,5x14,5 cm) com vii, 279 págs. Encadernação da época inteira de pele natural, um pouco cansada, com ferros a ouro na lombada.

Ilustrado com 3 estampas desdobráveis: 1 gravura mostrando uma operação cirúrgica e as outras 2 gravuras mostrando os instrumentos científicos da oftalmologia e cirurgia da época.

Exemplar com corte de folhas marmoreado, folhas decorativas de guarda da época e título de posse (manuscrito e rasurado da época) sobre o pé da folha de rosto.

Este é o primeiro tratado de cirurgia oftálmica impresso em Portugal e encontra-se ilustrado com os instrumentos cirúrgicos e a imagem de um médico a operar um paciente. Demonstra um elevado grau de conhecimentos científicos e recolhe informações dos mais famosos oftalmologistas (da Alemanha, Inglaterra e França) e das ciências auxiliares, suprindo uma lacuna que até então existia. O Dr. Santa Anna faleceu em 1814, tendo tido a glória de ser o primeiro oftalmologista em Portugal a elevar este ramo da medicina a um nível até então desconhecido.

Copyy with marbled edges, contemporary decorative end-papers ownership title (contemporary handwritten and erased) on the foot of the title page.

This is the first treatise on ophthalmic surgery printed in Portugal and is illustrated with the surgical instruments and the image of a doctor operating on a patient. It demonstrates a degree of scientific knowledge and collects information from the most famous ophthalmologists (from Germany, England and France) and from auxiliary sciences, filling a gap that had existed until then. Dr. Santa Anna died in 1814, having the glory of being the first ophthalmologist in Portugal to raise this branch of medicine to a previously unknown level.
