Obra com importantes referências à América (fólio 24) e contendo um tratado sobre a Esfera e alguns pequenos tratados sobre o clima, nascimento e ocaso das estrelas fixas e aritmética, os estudos são acompanhados de ilustrações no texto.

Esta obra quinhentista de astronomia ptolemaica teve mais de 70 edições e nela encontramos as soluções matemáticas para a justificação de um universo geocêntrico.

Johanes Stöffler (1452-1531) foi professor de matemática e astronomia em Tübingen e mestre de Sebastian Münster e Philipp Melanchton. Tornou-se conhecido também pela sua produção de instrumentos astronómicos (globos e relógios) e pela publicação de um almanaque - Ephemeridenwerk - de alta precisão. O retrato Stöffler, no cólofon da obra, é atribuído a Holbein.

A última folha inumerada apresenta o retrato do autor, o qual se encontra em falta noutros exemplares tal como, por exemplo, na seguinte referência bibliográfica VD16 P4977 [*].

16th Century work of Ptolemaic astronomy which had more than 70 editions, and in which we find the mathematical solutions justify a geocentric universe.

Johannes Stöffler (1452-1531), was professor of mathematics and astronomy in Tübingen and master of Sebastian Münster and Philipp Melanchthon. Also became known for its production of astronomical instruments (globes and clocks), and by publishing a high precision almanac - Ephemeridenwerk. Important references to America (vide folio 24). The portrait of Stöffler at the colophon of the work is attributed to Holbein.
