Contém uma dedicatória da tradutora a seu pai, na página 3, com a data de 12 de Junho de 1885.

Manuscrito tem junto um cartão de visita, em francês, do Vice Almirante Teixeira Pinha, Ajudante de Campo do Rei e Major General da Armada.

Maria Pinha é filha de Rodrigo Teixeira Pinha e não se conhecem outras obras da sua autoria.

Charles-Marie Flor O"Squarr (Bruxelas, 1830 - 1890), escritor belga, jornalista, publicista e tradutor. Traduziu obras do inglês e do sueco para francês. É autor de obras de ficção e de obras sobre a história de França. Escreveu igualmente uma obra sobre os anarquistas, que inclui uma pormenorizada descrição do fabrico de bombas.

Rodrigo Augusto Teixeira Pinha (1831 - 1909), oficial da Armada, foi vogal do Tribunal Superior de Guerra e Marinha, Comandou o vapor Lince; o iate Conde da Penha Firme; a esquadrilha naval do norte e a do Algarve; as corvetas Bartolomeu Dias, Duque da Terceira e Estefânia; a estação naval de Angola; a Escola Prática de Artilharia Naval; as Escolas de Alunos Marinheiros de Lisboa e do Porto; a Escola Naval; a Companhia de Guardas Marinhas; a divisão naval de África Ocidental e América do Sul; e o Corpo de Marinheiros da Armada. Frequentou estágios na Esquadra Francesa do Mediterrâneo e nas Escolas Práticas de Artilharia Naval Inglesas. Foi Ajudante de Campo do Rei D. Carlos, e nessas funções enviado às cerimónias fúnebres do Presidente da República Francesa, Sadi-Carnot, em 1894, como representante do Rei de Portugal. Pinha. Guard leaves in tissue paper.

Illustrated with floral motifs on the title page and on the page with the dedication and with 4 hors-text engravings on thicker paper.

Contains a dedication by the translator to her father on page 3, dated 12 June 1885.

Manuscript has enclosed a business card, in French, of Vice Admiral Teixeira Pinha, Field Aide to the King and Major General of the Navy.

Maria Pinha is the daughter of Rodrigo Teixeira Pinha and no other works by her are known.

The work is a tale of a fantastic nature, by this Belgian author who is little studied and divulged in our days. The translation was made while the author was still alive, which shows that the translator was very up to date with the literary novelties of the French-speaking world in the second half of the 19th century.

Charles-Marie Flor O"Squarr (Brussels 1830 - 1890). Belgian writer, journalist, publicist and translator. He translated works from English and Swedish into French. He is the author of works of fiction and works on the history of France. He also wrote a work on the anarchists, which includes a detailed description of bomb-making.

Rodrigo Augusto Teixeira Pinha (1831 - 1909). Officer of the Navy was a member of the High Court of War and Navy. He commanded the steamer Lince, the yacht Conde da Penha Firme, the naval squadron of the north, and the one of the Algarve, the corvettes Bartolomeu Dias, Duque da Terceira and Estefânia, the naval station of Angola, the Practical School of Naval Artillery; The Naval Academy; the Naval School; the Marine Guards Company; the Naval Division of West Africa and South America; and the Navy"s Marine Corps. He attended training courses at the French Mediterranean Fleet and at the English Naval Gunnery Practical Schools. He was Field Aide to King D. Carlos, and in that capacity he was sent to the funeral ceremonies of the President of the French Republic, Sadi-Carnot, in 1894, as representative of the King of Portugal.
