Ilustrado com 1 frontispício gravado (vinheta) e 60 litografias coloridas a água-tinta gravadas por J. D. Harding, C. Hullmandel, e W. Westall a partir dos desenhos de E. H. Locker. Obra com magnificas reproduções das pinturas de Edward Hawke Locker efectuadas durante a sua permanência em Espanha e intercaladas com a descrição dos locais retratados, das cidades e dos seus percursos, bem como da história antiga e moderna, sobretudo com a descrição dos momentos vividos durante a Guerra Peninsular. Edward Hawke Locker (1777-1849) nasceu em Kent, estudou em Eton e, em 1824, na qualidade de Administrador do Hospital Naval em Greenwich, abriu a Galeria Naval no “Painted Hall” do hospital. Durante as campanhas militares contra Napoleão foi secretário de Edward Pellews durante as suas comissões nas Índias Orientais, Mar do Norte e Mediterrâneo. Em 1813 esteve em Espanha, com Lord John Russell (a quem dedicou esta obra). Paralelamente ao seu trabalho como civil na Marinha, Locker dedicou-se à pintura, produzindo diversos trabalhos em aguarela, agora patentes no Museu Albert e Victoria e no Museu Britânico.

Illustrated with an engraved title page (vignette) and 60 aquatint coloured lithographs engraved by J. D. Harding, C. Hullmandel, and W. Westall from the drawings of E. H. Locker. An album with magnificent reproductions of the watercolours by Edward Hawke done during his stay in Spain, and interspersed with the description of the depicted places, cities and their routes, as well as ancient and modern history, mainly with the description of his experiences during the Peninsular Wars. Edward Hawke Locker (1777-1849) was born in Kent, studied in Eton and, in 1824, as Administrator of the Naval Hospital in Greenwich, he opened the Naval Gallery in the Hospital’s Painted Hall. During the military campaigns against Napoleon, he was civil secretary to Edward Pellews during his commissions in the Eastern Indies, North Sea and Mediterranean. In 1813 he stayed in Spain together with Lord John Russell (to whom he dedicates this work). At the same time he worked for the navy as a civilian, Locker did several watercolour paintings, with his works now in the V&A and British Museum.
